With the CD 'I THINK of DEMONS - A TRIBUTE TO ROKY ERICKSON Vol. I', the Gruselthon label is fulfilling its long-held wish to show Roger Kynard 'Roky' Erickson - mastermind of the 13th Floor Elevators; inventor of psychedelic music, '60s punk, and the eye in the pyramid; and friend of all monsters - the respect he deserves.

As sweeping as his influence on genres such as metal, punk, and folk was and as poetically as he knew how to tell the stories of the creatures lurking in the darkness, he always remained an outsider. Countless stories, recordings, and writings by him and about him tell of artistic and health-related ups and downs.

All are invited to delve into the gigantic output of releases and lyrics; to immerse themselves; and to lose themselves in the maelstrom of genius, acid, musicality, and spectral rhythms with their mouths agape. We wish you a pleasant journey.

'I Think of Demons', 13 songs from the master's pen, interpreted by 13 bands from the Gruselthon
universe, but also by artists we were able to get to know for the first time and who share our passion for Roky.

With BAR from Freiburg, 'Clear Night for Love' sounds intoxicated, bleary-eyed, but with the best voice. A crooner with a slight patina and great passion sets the stage. Another glass, please.

VIOLET KNOX from Boston transplant 'Stand for the Fire Demon' into a Blade Runner universe; the cyborgs sing at the Tannhaeuser Tor. Transhuman electro-psychedelic.

LOS BUERLECITIÑOS from the Ruhr area refuse to accept any structural change and roll down the slag
heap with 'You're Gonna Miss Me' in the best roaring, clattering, and bone-rattling garage punk style.

ALLYSEN CALLERY from Rhode Island, New England, obviously feels at home with Beelzebub and turns 'I Am' into a spooky dream pop track.

BIRDS THAT CHANGE COLOUR, an absolutely great discovery from Belgium, whose music I would like
to recommend to everyone, has turned 'Don't Fall Down' into a trippy freak performance that lures all the dwarves and goblins, including Syd Barret, out from under the mushroom.

FENTON WEILLS - the anorak of the '80s still fits perfectly as we ride the rails of the post-punk 'Roller Coaster'.

The SHINY GNOMES meander through overgrown shores waving to you and the Incredible String Band from a fluorescent spaceship: 'May the Circle Remain Unbroken'.

GIANT CROW from Hamburg play orchestral country noir in dark, ghostly corridors. The answer to 'If You Have Ghosts' is clear.

COSMIC KANGAROOS confront the 'Creature with the Atom Brain' with a barrage of fuzz until all the tubes are glowing, the guitars just as bent as they were in '67.

The acid folk duo WALKER PHILLIPS & CAIRA PARAVAL conjure up the cosmic cure from their kraut cellar with antiquated synthesizers to create the 'Night of the Vampire'.

AEON CRYPT let the 'Two Headed Dog' off the leash; heavy motors, studded bracelets, and towering amplifiers drive the spectacle. Is that metal?

KRISTINA JUNG is to 'Cold Night for Alligators' what Yoko Ono was to the Beatles: too cool, too elegant, too crazy, and almost too big for this CD.

TRAPPIST AFTERLAND bid us farewell and embrace us with 'Mighty Is Our Love', closing out the CD like a Hollywood Inn door quietly shutting behind you.

The design of the release was created by the great Florian Grass/Kabine 7.
